MTN Foundation Commissions Multipurpose Library

Ghana’s leading Telecommunication giants, MTN has commissioned a multipurpose library and robotic centre for the Ebenezer Senior High School and as well for the usage of the Dansoman community in the Greater Accra Region.

The project was in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly and the Ebenezer Senior High School is at the cost of seven hundred and seventy thousand Ghana cedis.

The facility includes a reception area, a storeroom, a hundred seater conventional library area, 20 seater ICT area, a world-class robotics lab training centre, two offices and washrooms.

Addressing the stakeholders in a short ceremony before commissioning of the facility, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN-Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh said the project is part of MTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) over almost 25-years and it’s the 151st projects of the MTN Foundation since it was formed in 2007.

He said the Foundation has impacted over 400 million lives in the area of education, health, and economic empowerment.

“The MTN Foundation believes in the power of education and it is for this reason that education is one of our three pillars of our Social Investment Strategy.

The exciting part of this project is that the Dansoman Community Library is likely to be the first Secondary School in Ghana to have a modern-integrated, multipurpose library that includes both ICT Components and a Robotic Lab,” he disclosed.

The CEO said in the world-over ICT and technology are now fully embedded in the daily life of humans.

“When the idea of a modern ICT library and robotic was brought to us at MTN Foundation, I was personally very inspired by for various reasons, firstly, the start of a modern integrated and multipurpose library and robotic lab greatly excited me,” he stated.

Mr. Adadevoh is optimistic that the library will bring a drastic change to not only the Dansoman Community but the whole nation at large.

“Secondly, we gladly accepted to embark on this project at the Ebenezer Senior High School because we under the life-changing opportunities such a facility will bring to the people of Dansoman.

One of core mandate is to improve the lives of the people through the appropriate sustainable interventions in communities where MTN operates. Simply put, we have a responsibility to the people of Dansoman and we are happy to support in this way,” he added.

The CEO said as an organization, MTN is committed to bringing ICT to many more Ghanaians irrespective of their location.

“The journey always begins somewhere, and for Dansoman and Ebenezer Senior High School, this is only the beginning of your unique way towards Ghana’s dream and ambition of a digital economy,” he stated.

The Communications Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful who commissioned the project was with great joy for the facility and commended MTN-Ghana for the kind gesture.

Madam Ursula, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area said Ghanaians young people have achieved great successes in recent times.

She mentioned the Ghana Tech-Lab among other inventions where the youth has produced face shield with the three-D printing technology.

“There is room for the young people to do much more. In the face of adversity, our innovation comes to the fore. It only starts with the passion for knowledge,” she added.

The Minister disclosed that Ghanaian youth has also come out successful in the world’s major competitions in recent times.

“It is abundantly clear from all the successes that our young people have chalked that we do not lack in talent or potential.

What our young people need is the right tools and the platform to showcase what they can achieve with the very best in the world,” she added.
